PSSA Update

April 7, 2009

In case you weren’t at the PSSA General Forum, we had a slight change in the by-laws which affect the length of the term of each position. You can find the updated by-laws on our website.

Sergeant Claude Taylor spoke with us about the new procedures and phone numbers to call for security or police whether it is an emergency or not. Butch Juelg went over the problems with the new help desk procedures. He addressed the problems and frustrations that everyone seems to be experiencing. He assured us that brighter days are ahead and things will smooth out over time.
Four seats are up for election: President-elect, Secretary, Treasurer and Training and Activities Coordinator. Malinda Yanock will go on to be President starting September 1, 2009. Nomination ballots will out soon. I urge you to be part of the process. We already have Dr. Head’s ear; we need to have a voice.

Birthday greetings and cup cakes were doled for those PSSA folks that had birthdays in January, February, March and April.

Also, an announcement was made about the off-campus Spring event, which by now you should have seen an e-mail from Bruce O’Neal detailing our day.

I’m always at your disposal. Please feel free to call or e-mail me with any questions or concerns you might have. I’ll wrap it up with a quote from Scott Hamilton – “The only disability in life is a bad attitude.”

This year the PSSA has awarded three (3) – $150 educational support scholarships to:

Please join the LSC-North Harris PSSA in congratulating these awardees and in wishing them continued success in their educational pursuits.

Inspiration to Others

May 9, 2008

By Linda Genco
President,
LSC-North Harris Professional and Support Staff Association

Lincoln once said, “I’ve come to realize that people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” I believe this with all my heart. In today’s surroundings, we find ourselves searching for good news, and lately it’s been hard to come by. Although we are unable to control what goes on in the world, here is some good news….we can still control our attitudes.

The most wonderful thing about having a positive attitude is the number of people it touches, many times in ways you’ll never know. By the attitude we chose, by the choice we make, we influence lives every day in positive or negative ways…our peers, our friends, our family, and strangers we’ve never met before and will never meet again.

So when you get ready for work every morning, ask yourself, “Who do I want to be today?” Your answer will go a long way toward determining not only your day, but everyone else who you encounter at work, at home, at the gas station, at the grocery store, or any where you travel.

Today, I chose to be an inspiration to others. Corny? Maybe, but it just might work.
